Beginner protection and shields
Beginner protection and active shields block attacks and scouting. Before activating a shield, resolve actions the game identifies as incompatible, such as outbound offensive activity. Shield charges recover over time, so use them before genuine absence or vulnerability.
Scouting
A scout travels to the target and can reveal information before an expensive attack. The target detects incoming reconnaissance, and shields block it. Scouting reduces uncertainty but also signals intent.
Garrison and tactics
Station an acquired, idle hero and choose a defensive stance. Garrisoning improves defense but reserves troops and removes that hero from field work. Station enough to survive without disabling the rest of your account.
Reinforcements
Send troops to support a friendly citadel or objective when arrival time and available capacity make the help useful. Reinforced troops remain committed until recalled, dismissed, or returned.
Relocation
Preview the destination before confirming. Relocation consumes a charge and checks clearance from bases, nodes, citadels, and mercenaries. Move for Coven proximity, safety, or objective access—not merely to shorten one routine march.
Defense layers
| Layer | What it protects | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Shield | Blocks eligible attacks and scouting while active | May conflict with offensive activity |
| Night Vault | Protects part of stored resources from theft | Does not prevent troop or hero consequences |
| Garrison | Adds stationed hero and troop defense | Commits assets that cannot march elsewhere |
| Reinforcement | Adds friendly troops to a defense | Requires travel time and allied availability |
| Relocation | Changes strategic position | Consumes a charge and requires valid clearance |
Before a long absence
- Recall unnecessary field marches and review incoming activity.
- Spend exposed resources or confirm Night Vault coverage.
- Station a suitable defense without consuming every usable troop.
- Activate protection before you become unavailable, not after an attack arrives.
- Move closer to active Coven support when location is the recurring weakness.
